End of Term Letter from the Headteacher
Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope that this letter finds you well and enjoying, at long last, the summer weather.
As in all schools, much has happened this academic year and time has passed so quickly. I hope that the Christ’s Chronicles goes some way to keeping you up to date with those many activities and events.
This term has once again been very busy for all involved in school life. The public exams included the first year of our Year 13 sitting their A level exams along with the AS and GCSE exams. A busy time for all involved including the families of the students. We wish them every success on August 18 when they are able to collect their A2 results from 8am - 10am and their AS results from 10am – 12pm and on 25 August for their GCSE results from 9.00am when Mr. Morris will be available to advise students about final subject choices. We hope that all their hard work will come to fruition and that they receive the results they were expecting and deserve.
Our Year 11 and Year 13 Liturgies were respectively a very special time for our students, their families and teaching staff. After months of preparation and hard work for their exams it was a time to reflect and share special memories of their time at Christ’s. They also celebrated on the evening of I July with staff and friends at their Proms, where a good time was had by all.
We also witnessed two performances of our school production “The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe” and enjoyed a wealth of talent from a large group of our students, who provided an entertaining evening for parents and friends. We were delighted to be able to invite local primary schools to watch the dress rehearsal. Congratulations to all those who took part and to Miss Harries and Miss Randall and their team for directing and producing a wonderful performance.
Our Year 6 student induction day was very well received.
We have been very busy with Open Mornings which have all been well attended and we will have more in September and October. Please look at our website nearer the time for details.
On 8 July we held our annual Sports Day. All the students took part in a very successful day at St Mary’s University. Thank you to Mr Smith and his team for organising this, thus allowing our students to once again sample a professional athletics stadium where local top athletes and sports people normally train and use the facilities. The overall event was won by Attenborough House.
Our Sports Department have been celebrating many successes this academic year with details being posted on Facebook and in Christ’s Chronicles to keep parents up to date. We are really proud of all the achievements of our students in all year groups and as the year started with Sports success we get to end with success too! ?The Year 7 & 8 Boys Cricket Team beat RPA in the Borough League Final at Christ's yesterday. The Year 7 & 8 Girls Rounders Team beat Waldegrave in the Borough League Final . They are now unbeaten borough champions over the course of the summer term.
We were joined on Tuesday 13 July in the evening in the School Sports Hall by His Worship the Mayor of the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames Councillor David Linnette, and our Chair of Governors, Ruth Martin, as well as many parents and students to celebrate the excellent achievements of our young people over the past academic year.
Some of the evening’s highlights included the awards to students in Years 7 to 12, the musical performances from our music department and our three special awards, the Swinburne House Cup, awarded to Turing House as house champions; the Greenwood Shield, awarded to Attenborough House as winners of Sports Day; and the Emlyn Wibberley Award, awarded to someone in Year 10 who demonstrates the same qualities that Emlyn did. This year that student was Louis Icke. Congratulations to everyone who received an award.
We are very lucky at Christ’s that we have a very small staff turnover every year. As this academic year comes to a close we do say goodbye to a few staff who are leaving for a variety of reasons.
It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Mrs. McGrail and Mrs. Brown who have both been incredible servants to Christ’s School for twelve years. I am sure that you join me in thanking them both for their dedication, hard work and contribution to the education of the many young people who have passed through our gates in that time. We wish them well for a very long and happy retirement.
We are also sorry to be losing Mrs. Bromly who has been promoted to Deputy Head at Twickenham Academy, Mr. Gooding, Miss Collins, Mr. Andrews and Mr. Leung who are moving abroard and Mrs Hoyle who is going on maternity leave and moving away from the area to be closer to family. Mrs. Busby and Miss.MacNaughton who are both changing careers. Mrs. Godliman, Mr. Bailey and Mr. Mitchell are continuing their teaching careers in new schools and Mrs. McGrath who will also be retiring. We wish them all well for the future and thank them for their contribution to Christ’s School.
I am sure that you will also join me in wishing Mrs Hoyle, Ms Chadwick and Mrs. Bradley every success as they go on to Maternity Leave at the beginning of September 2016.

When we return to school in September we will be starting with Week Gold. Please ensure you check your child’s diary to support them in arriving to school with the correct equipment for their lessons.
Can I also take this opportunity to remind you that we expect all students to be dressed properly in the normal school uniform at all times; please refer to our website if you are in any doubt about the correct uniform as this gives details of our expectations including appropriate trousers and skirts. Please use the holiday period to refresh uniform and equipment requirements so that students are ready to begin in September without unnecessary and avoidable confrontation. All students will be expected to revert to the normal school uniform of shirt and tie. Please remember that canvas footwear is not acceptable; no makeup is allowed nor nail varnish; over the knee socks are not to be worn; no jewellery is allowed apart from one pair of stud earrings; hair should be of an appropriate length and cut to a traditional style in a natural colour– there should be no tram lines or other unusual deviations. Students not in full school uniform will be sent home to rectify this; there should be no excuse after a summer holiday. Uniform should be worn properly with pride from home to school and from school to home.
May God bless you over the summer holidays, particularly if you are travelling. I hope the time will be used to good effect and that you return refreshed and ready for the new academic year which begins for the whole school on Monday 5 September. Year 7 will start at 8.30am and Years 8 – 11 will start at 9.30am.
