2019/20 Admissions Arrangements

Outcome of Consultation on Admissions Arrangements for 2019/20

The Governors at Christ’s School have now completed their consultation regarding that School’s admissions policy for 2019/20. This report represents the outcome of the consultation, which ran from 6 December 2017 until 31 January 2018. The following recipients were invited to participate:

  • Parents, Staff and Governors of Christ’s School
  • Local Authorities in Richmond and Kingston and surrounding boroughs
  • Governing bodies at all maintained primary and secondary schools in Richmond and Kingston
  • Southwark Diocesan Board of Education

The consultation covered the following changes:

  1. The Admissions Policy has been split to create two new documents - Admissions Policy for Years 7-11 and Admissions Policy for the Sixth Form. This allows for greater clarity regarding minimum academic entry requirements for Year 12.
  1. In the Admissions Policy for Year 7-11, The Governing Body proposes adjusting the split of Christian Foundation to Open places from 75 each to 50 Christian Foundation places and 100 Open places. The rationale for this change is two-fold:
  1. Offering 50 Foundation places provides a more accurate representation of the ratio of Foundation to Open applications that the School has received over the past few years
  1. Based on analysis of previous Admissions data, reducing the number of Foundation places would extend the home/distance of the initial Open offers significantly, thus reducing uncertainty for a greater number of local families.
  1. Further clarity has been provided in both policies regarding the requirements for Exceptional Social Medical applications and the duration of employment required for applications made for children of staff.
  1. The wording in both policies has been simplified to remove duplication and aid understanding.

Consultees were invited to send us their comments on the proposal, and a copy of the full proposed 2018/19 policy was published on the School’s website throughout the consultation period.

The Governing Body at Christ’s School would like to thank everyone who responded to the consultation and would like to communicate the outcome. Details of the changes made can be found below and a copies of our determined Admissions Arrangements for 2019/20 for both Years 7-11 and Year 12 are below.
