Exceptional Family, Social or Medical need

This section provides information on admissions to Christ’s School due to Exceptional Family, Social or Medical circumstances.

Please read the Exceptional family, social or medical need section in the 2026 secondary school admissions brochure so you are aware of the full policy before deciding whether to apply under this criterion.

Priority may be granted to applicants where a child’s compelling medical or social circumstances mandate attendance at Christ’s School over any other.

  1. Submission: A written application, along with supporting documentation (e.g., a medical/social report from a suitable professional), must be submitted at the time of the application.

  2. Required Detail: The evidence must explicitly state the reasons why only Christ’s School is the most suitable choice and the resulting difficulties if the child attended an alternative school.

  3. Non-Local Applicants: If Christ’s is not the closest school, the professional’s report must detail wholly exceptional circumstances justifying attendance at this specific school.

  4. Limitations: Priority is not automatically given for common medical conditions, allergies, or standard Special Educational Needs (e.g., ASD, ADHD) alone, as these are typically supported in all mainstream settings.

  5. Faith: Applications based on Christ's being a Christian school do not fall within this category.  Applicants wishing to apply for a Christian Foundation place require church attendance at least twice per month for two years prior to application. Applications will need a supplementary form to be signed by your minister to confirm regular attendance.

  6. Review: A panel of Governors will consider the evidence and may seek independent advice before reaching a decision. Providing evidence does not guarantee that a child will be given priority at Christ's School.

The following examples, while not exhaustive, are NOT considered by Christ's School to be strong enough to meet this criterion:

  • Your place of work
  • Childcare arrangements including travel to school
  • Friendship groups
  • Parental or student preference
  • High standards at the school, or of any curriculum subject
  • Common medical conditions, allergies and Special Educational Needs including AutismSpectrum Disorder & Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
  • Previous family connections to the school
  • Christian faith
