Introducing our new Chair of Governors

Alison greenwoodMy name is Alison Greenwood and it is a huge privilege to be the new Chair of Governors at Christ’s School. My involvement in the school began in 2007, when my elder daughter first entered Year 7, and since then I have been fortunate to witness first-hand the fantastic education that this school offers to all of its students. I’m immensely proud of its reputation as a school which provides not only an excellent academic experience, but also an extremely caring, nurturing and enriching environment, in which young people are encouraged to acquire skills such as leadership and collaborative working, and develop qualities such as empathy, resilience and compassion.

I am convinced that the school’s Christian ethos, with the values of Love, Justice and Peace at the heart of all that happens here, makes Christ’s the very special community it is, and I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to serve as its new Chair of Governors, alongside a talented and dedicated leadership team, inspirational teachers and a highly committed support staff.

It is an exciting time to be part of Christ’s School, following the outstanding success of our first ‘A’ level students and, once again, some excellent GCSE results. Consistent with our holistic understanding of what a good education comprises, I am also thrilled with the achievement of our fantastic PE department, who have just been awarded Sport England’s Gold Sportsmark, becoming the only secondary school in Richmond Borough to achieve this highest of accolades.

It is a difficult and unsettling time for secondary schools across the country, as they face ever increasing budgetary scrutiny, a completely overhauled curriculum and assessment system, and uncertainty around initiatives such as academies and grammar schools. However, I am confident that Christ’s School is well placed to face these challenges, and I look forward to celebrating the continuing success of our school in the coming year.
