Year 7 Parents/Carers Meet-up Opportunity

Unfortunately, due to the introduction of Tier 2 restrictions, the PSA have made the decision to postpone this event which would have been Tuesday 20th Oct. When the White Horse have their outdoors heaters in place, we will look to rearrange after half term to provide an opportunity for you to meet (still with the rule of 6 outdoors) in their lovely garden. If restrictions are eased by then, we would be able to resume meeting in groups of 6 indoors.

Welcome e-mail September 2020

Dear Christ’s Families,

We hope the new academic year has started well for you and your children, whether they are returning to Christ’s after the unprecedented last few months of learning from home or have joined us from other schools.

Usually, at this time of year, the PSA (Parents and Staff Association) would be busy organising social opportunities for the families of new year 7 children to meet up. While that will sadly not be possible in person due to the current situation, we still hope very much to provide an opportunity to meet virtually in this first half of the term. At the moment, we have in mind an online quiz night and perhaps also a virtual Q and A session with existing Christ’s parents.

As always, the Christ’s PSA invites and appreciates suggestions, input and assistance from within its community as every parent, carer and staff member is automatically a valued part of the PSA. The small committee facilitate social opportunities but also very importantly, fund-raising events. The money from this is used to enhance all our children’s educational experience and environment. November would normally be the time for our annual and ever-popular Fireworks night which, again, unfortunately, cannot happen this year. However, we still have a number of things you can be involved in, in particular coming up on Wednesday 30th September at 8pm we have the Annual General Meeting of the PSA.

All Christ's School Parents and Carers are warmly welcomed to join our first PSA meeting of the year, which will also be the Annual General Meeting. It is a great opportunity to meet other people, to find out what we do, help decide on what events we should host this year, and how we should spend any money raised. This year it will need to be held virtually because of the Covid restrictions. This means that there will be a limit of 50 people who can join via Skype, which is our preferred platform as it is free! We have never had more than 50 people attend a PSA meeting so we hope this will be able to accommodate everyone who wants to join - in the unlikely event that the number has been exceeded, please contact the school and we will switch to a paid service to ensure you can join. The link to register to attend is: https://bookwhen.com/christspsa

Agenda:

  1. Welcome and introductions
  2. AGM:
    a. Financial Accounts overview 2019-2020
    b. Trustee's Report overview 2019-2020
    c. Election of committee members/trustees
  3. Year 7 Virtual Social
  4. Virtual fundraising ideas for 2020/21
  5. Date and topic of the next Meeting

The link to the Second hand uniform/equipment facebook page with items for sale or to give away is https://www.facebook.com/Christs-School-2nd-hand-uniform-1984452131788097

We would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your families all well for this school year and to ask anyone who might be interested in a role on the committee as Chair, Co-Chair or Trustee to e-mail christsschoolpta@gmail.com.

With best wishes,

Hannah Childs (Secretary) and Rowan Woodward (Treasurer)

LANDSCAPING PROJECT

PHASE 2 - now complete!

Phase 2 of the project was completed over the October half term, and the inner quad is now complete with new raised decking area instead of muddy grass. Apparently it is already in high demand!  We just need to pretty it up a bit now with hanging flower baskets or similar.........any ideas from parents or students welcome!

You can also just make out behind that the railing and building behind have also been repainted a neutral green, which makes the whole area look much smarter.

So what is the next project going to be?  Please come along to the next PTA meeting with any suggestions....

14th may richmond may fair success!

It was another great day at Richmond May Fair this year, with much better weather than forecast for once.  Thanks to Paul Cox for getting the Gas Urn to finally work by resorting to lighting it with a match whilst we all cowered at the other end of the marquee, and for his fabulous plants as usual. Many thanks to the great tMayfair 2016 fig 2eamwork of the Scheibli's and Tracey Kidd in manning the BBQ, again, and to everyone else who helped on the day and donated cakes and prizes.

We managed to raise over £800 in profit, had a great time, and raised the profile of the school all in one day!

The money raised will go towards the FINAL stage of the inner quad landscaping, where the remaining muddy patch will be transformed into a decked seating area.  We will be asking for donations to raise the final sum needed to go ahead with the work - please see article above.Mayfair 2016 fig 1_______________________________________________________________________________________________

Your PTA Needs You

The PTA are looking for volunteers to help manage and run  the very successful  and important Fireworks night in November 2016.  The current PTA members have been running this event for the last 4 years and would now like to hand over to other volunteers.

The fireworks evening has been running for 11 years now, and has become an integral part of Richmond community's festivities, helping to connect us with, and promote us to, local families.  It would be a real shame if the event could not run in November. It would a loss, both to the community and to our reputation, and also because it is our biggest fundraiser of the year, raising around £5,000 in profit.

We are looking for someone who is willing to take on the responsibility of organising and co-ordinating the event, plus a team of people to help out.  The event is fully documented and full support and advice will be available from past members. More information on the role can be found here. The fireworks need to be booked in June, so we will need volunteers by 31st May.

We are also looking for people to organise the 2017 Quiz evening, and the 2017 May Fair. Ideally we would like to have teams of people who help to organise particular events, so that the burden does not fall on the same people all the time.

Helping out with PTA events is a great way to connect with other parents, make new friends and be involved in the life of the school. A vibrant parent/carer community helps to generate a sense of pride and belonging, and the money raised helps to create a better environment and more opportunities for our students, for example from the landscaping project, to table tennis tables, drama equipment, library books, other sporting equipment etc. Christ's has an ambition to reach an Outstanding Ofsted rating, and parental engagement evidenced by a vibrant PTA is your chance to contribute to this.

If you would like the fireworks to go ahead next year, and would like to find out more about how you can help with this or other events, please contact the current PTA Treasurer, Rowan Woodward at rowan@oddbod.org.uk.

PLEASE HELP US KEEP CHRIST'S PTA GOING!! MANY THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR SUPPORT.

MASSIVE THANKS TO JOHNNY VEGAS FOR  RECORD BREAKING QUIZ EVENING!

IMG 2216IMG 2153Massive, massive thanks to Johnny Vegas for hosting the school’s funniest Quiz evening ever on Friday!!

Over 120 parents, staff, teachers and governors were entertained by Johnny for hours (literally!) whilst competing against each other in a closely fought contest. The teachers were narrowly beaten to the top spot by a year 8 parent team, whilst Johnny kept the jokes rolling.  Many thanks to Johnny for a truly hilarious and unforgettable evening.

We also managed to smash our previous years takings with a record profit of around £3,200  - over twice last year’s!  This means that we can now finish the border area around our new landscaped inner quad, with seating just in time for that Easter heat wave – so many thanks to everyone for their IMG 2259support!

Also huge thanks for all the photos courtesy of  Vicki Sharp Photography www.vickisharpphotography.com, for the fantastic food provided by our very own Christ's caterers and for Fitz-Gibbon for sponsoring us.

8 November 2015 Christ's Annual Fireworks Display

Fireworks 2 photosChrist's has run a Fireworks evening for the last 11 years. This years fireworks on 8th November was the most successful to date, attended by around 500 Christ's parents, students and staff and around 1500 parents and children from our local primary schools and the scouts.  It is a lovely community event and the fireworks were excellent again this year! Many thanks to everyone who helped out.

The evening is our biggest fundraiser of the year and raised over £5000 in profit which now enables us to go ahead with the landscaping project - see details below.

The current organiser will be stepping down this year, so if you would like to help run this important event, please contact Jane Fitch janeefitch1@gmail.com.
